Always higher!

If you have not yet read the previous article on the Nideck waterfall, now is the time.

You will find all the information you need to start this walk.

The path that leads to the ruins of the Nideck castle passes over a small bridge that straddles one of the rivers that probably feeds the Nideck waterfall.

The walk is easy and the path is very well marked. The path takes us higher and higher.

After a few minutes in the shade through the forest, the ruins of the Nideck castle, listed as a historical monument since 1898, stand before us.

I will let you appreciate how small one feels in front of this building erected in 1200.

The dungeon is condemned (for reasonable people) and access is forbidden.

We take advantage of a bench located just next to it to have our little snack and regain some strength.

The particularity of the Nideck castle... is that there are two of them. Or that it is in two parts, depending on the situation.

We continue our escapade, to go to the upper part this time.

The top of the humpbacked stone shield wall (or keep) is accessible by a modern staircase.

It is difficult to go any higher this time, we have arrived.

From up there, the view is once again breathtaking.

This keep totally dominates the Nideck cirque.

As I mentioned earlier, access to the Bas-Nideck dungeon is forbidden. But some clever people don't hesitate to defy the ban, at their own risk.

Warning here. I'm not really afraid of heights or climbing, but even though the staircase is well laid out, you shouldn't be afraid of heights to use it, nor should you venture up there in bad weather.

In conclusion, this walk went from surprise to surprise, each one more pleasant than the last.

I understand perfectly the pleasure that people have in coming to stroll or rest in this place and I can only advise you to do the same.

Have a nice walk!
