The Nideck waterfall

Date 29/05/2019

A family walk!

If you are looking for the Niedeck car park, don't be as clumsy as we were in getting there.

We trusted our GPS which led us to the nearest geographical point on the road to the waterfall.

Bad luck, it's in a bend in the middle of the pass, high up... and very far from the starting point.

If you want to go to the Nideck car park, enter "Auberge La Cascade du Nideck" instead.

The path winds its way between imposing volcanic cliffs and a river that will accompany you to the waterfall.

As we made our way along, the urge was too strong to go and have a closer look at what the river looked like.

With long exposure the river turns into mist

On the way, we met as many hikers as people who had come for their Sunday walk.

We were surprised to come across families with pushchairs, but it is clear that the path is accessible and can be walked without too much difficulty.

The paths are wide

After a few minutes of walking, we see our grail of the afternoon in the distance: the Nideck waterfall.

The time to let the other walkers take some pictures, and it was my turn to feel very small in front of the waterfall.

It is possible to go to the foot of the waterfall, but no need to take your swimming costume, you will not be able to take a dip.

The walk was relatively short (for our taste). But but but but, on our right, at the foot of the waterfall, we see a staircase that invites us to climb it...

Higher and higher

We climb the steps one by one and there, a footbridge presents itself to us:

Without missing a beat, we walk to the edge, where we can enjoy a splendid view of the forest.

The rest of the walk will take you directly to the ruins of the Nideck castle, which I also invite you to read.
