The city of Heraklion

Date 14/05/2019

First stage of this Cretan journey.

It's right next to the airport as well, so it's royal for a start.

Well rested and with full bellies, we arrive at the gates of Heraklion (Ηράκλειο) town in the early morning.

We don't fail in our tourist commitments and wander through the streets.

Attracted by the sounds and smells of the shops on the street, we progress, discovering our first Greek words.

Here, watch your business. The area is very touristy and busy and... very noisy.

We were stopped by little girls selling little flower crowns.

As we were also pigeons, we gave them a coin, but they didn't hesitate to take it from us once our backs were turned.

The place was well chosen, after all.

We take advantage of being at the water's edge to have our meal: a fish carpaccio with chips, dessert and a digestive (raki) offered.

Something we didn't know before coming, it is customary in Greece to be offered a little sweet at the end of the meal.

I personally took the opportunity to discover the local beer "Fix". The equivalent of our dear Alsatian Heineken. It's a bit of a mouthful.
