Kournas Lake

This atypical lake bordered by white mountains is located not far from the town of Georgioupoli (just under 4km).

Beyond its deep blue colour which changes throughout the day, this lake is the only freshwater lake in Greece.

For the more adventurous, if you take a dip, don't be surprised to see eels, the lake is full of them.

On the other hand, if you like pedal boats, it is possible to hire them on site. You can then race with the swans and ducks that live there.

Depending on the season, it is possible to walk around the lake. It takes a little less than an hour to do this.

As you can see from the photos above and below, the water level was very high when we visited.

The stairs leading to the beaches seem to plunge into the abyss.

In short, our trip was probably too quick to appreciate the richness of this place.

However, for those who are soothed by lakes, wish to picnic or rest for an afternoon, this is the perfect place!
